Appealing at once, the nose of our Pinot Noir 2012 is ripe with plum, aromatic spice and red florals. The palate is focussed with a savoury architecture; bittersweet chocolate, dark fruit and spice play with leather and hints of earthiness.
Grapes for this sauvignon blanc are sourced from estate and grower vineyards located in the Rapaura, Fairhall, Renwick and Brancott sub-regions of the Wairau Valley. Soils range from free draining stony on the valley floor to aged alluvial loams containing some clay.
Fresh lime, passion fruit and blackcurrant dominate aromatically and are confirmed to taste. These intense sweet / sour fruits are balanced by a round calcareous acidity lending the wine energy, balance and a dry palate cleansing finish.
Pirathon Shiraz 2011 is rich purple-black in colour. Very deep colour for '11; earthy/tarry black fruits and firm tannins track the bouquet; some clever work needed for this outcome, with the mid-palate fruit of a warmer vintage.
This stylish Pinot from New Zealand is outstanding value. The nose exhibits wild strawberry, cherry and spice aromas and the palate has rich complex varietal flavours with lovely velvety texture. Pinot lovers take note!
Already showing some colour development; while the bouquet is varietal, it is the palate that really brings the lychee and peach fruit flavours to the fore; almost inevitably, the finish is slightly thick.
The 2010 The Malleea is rich, dark magenta in colour, with ripe plums, spice and vanillin oak on the nose. The palate is like a complex fruit cake with layers of fresh berries, black olives and hints of chocolate.
