Wines by Geoff Hardy is made up of three South Australian wineries founded by Geoff - Pertaringa in McLaren Vale, K1 by Geoff Hardy in the Adelaide Hills and Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy sourced from a variety of premium regions across South Australia.
In 1980, Geoff Hardy established Pertaringa and since then the Pertaringa vineyards in the foothills behind McLaren Vale have continued to produce some of the region's finest wines. The soils are enriched from the hills above and the cooler climate, further tempered by the sea breezes off St Vincent's Gulf, sets the scene for high quality wine grapes. The name Pertaringa means 'belonging to the hills' and originates from the local Kaurna indigenous language. Today, Geoff continues the family's 160 year old connection with McLaren Vale.
In 1987, Geoff Hardy finally found his ideal site for the production of outstanding cool climate grapes in the Adelaide Hills. The vineyard became known as the K1 Vineyard as this unique, groundbreaking site was the first commercial planting of vines in the Kuitpo (pronounced ky-po) region. Today, like his great-great grandfather, Thomas Hardy, Geoff continues to push the boundaries of Australian viticulture in his single estate K1 by Geoff Hardy wines. He and his family also continue their work to make sure that the K1 Cellar Door maintains its reputation as one of Australia's leading cellar door experiences.
After leaving the family company in 1980 and starting up Pertaringa in McLaren Vale and K1 in the Adelaide Hills, Geoff Hardy established Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy in 2005. The Hand Crafted wines are made from parcels of hand-selected, premium fruit from the family's vineyards around South Australia. The wines might be expressions of a single vineyard or regional blends, and make up one of the broadest and most exciting ranges of alternate and emerging variteties in Australia.
